The origin of ramen is from China. Chinese Businessmen arrived in Japan with Chinese soup in 19th century. Depending on components of broths, seasonings, toppings and noodles, we will have different types of noodle like Shoyu, Tonkotsu, Shio, Miso, Tsukemen. 

And each area in Japan also has its own regional style to make its ramen more attractive and have unique favour. Hakata Ward, Fukuoka City (Kyushu Island in the South) is home to the Tonkotsu favour while Miso is generally associated with Hokkaido Island in the North.
